"Bringing Art to the People and People to the Arts"

Afternoon with An Artist

Our “Afternoon with an Artist” events bring artists and community members to BRAC for a casual luncheon and artist demonstration or talk. Local artists are invited to showcase their talent in a small group setting. In addition to lunch and a demonstration, guests are often able to able to view and discuss work directly with the artist.

Presentation matters! Have you ever noticed how your artwork can either be improved or diminished based solely on its presentation? Have you ever had a piece turned away by a juror only to discover later that it was the framing which excluded your work from consideration? It may seem unfair, but it is a reality and it happens more often than you think! The distraction of an inappropriate frame and mat is often not understood, but we are here to help.

Rhea Fletcher has stretched, matted, and joined frames for over 30 years. She owned and operated a picture framing business and has worked with many artists and businesses to preserve and favorably present their paintings and photographs. Rhea has framed work which is displayed in the Smithsonian, Euro Disney in France, Union College Museum in New York, The Hagley Museum in Delaware, and many other prominent locations.

In addition to sharing a little “Frame History”, Rhea, who is also an accomplished artist, will share some of her own work to illustrate good and bad practices when it comes to presentation. She will walk you through the dos and don’ts and teach you how to look at a framed piece objectively and understand if it is framed well or not, and why. She can help you present your pieces to their best advantage.

A light lunch (soup, salad and dessert) will be served at Noon, to be followed by Rhea’s presentation and a walk through of our current Juried Exhibition. We hope you will join us and fellow art enthusiasts, as we pick up some pointers from an expert in the field.
