About the Show: “Beyond the Ordinary”
“I have always been inspired by the uniqueness and beauty in what some may view as ordinary. I strive to share my thoughts and feelings through the objects I depict, illuminating the stories and spirits beyond the ordinary.”
About Dale
I grew up in Six Mile, a small town in upstate South Carolina. My grandfather farmed on 70 acres not far from my house. I spent many days on the farm, which was a half-mile down a dirt road off the main highway. The simplicity of the farm, fields, creeks and woods, have always been the core inspiration for my work.
I am drawn to the ordinary and the unique beauty in what might seem plain. Through my art, I strive to share my thoughts and feelings through the objects I depict, bringing out the stories and spirits beyond the ordinary.
My earliest memories as a child… I was drawing. My early training was sitting on the floor beside my father at his drawing board, copying drawings from his mail-order art training course books. In high school, I received my first formal training that introduced me to a wide range of art mediums, as well as the works of renowned artists like Van Gogh, Degas, and Monet. I furthered my education at Anderson University and Winthrop University, earning an Associate Degree in Art and a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts, respectively.
While I have explored various mediums, such as oils, acrylics, and egg tempera, currently my primary mediums are watercolor, graphite and charcoal.
I have been professionally involved in the arts for over 45 years, serving as an artist, illustrator, instructor, graphic designer, and creative director. In 2022, I retired from my position as the Executive Director of Creative Operations for University Marketing at Clemson University, allowing me to dedicate my full attention to my family and my art.
I am an exhibiting artist at the Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville at 200 N Main, Greenville SC and I also teach workshops.
